In January, Strong John Thomson Elementary celebrated Family Reading Night in style! With the generous support from our friends at NAESP (The National Association of Elementary School Principals), MetLife, and Scholastic, we had a standing room only event.

After our extended snow-cation, Thomson students, teachers and staff were anxious to get back to school! February’s highlights included a wonderful and well-attended Family Math Night. We were thrilled to ring in the year of the Tiger and march in the New Year Parade in Chinatown. We had a great number of students, teachers, and parents join us in this special celebration.

Thomson had a fabulous Black History Month Celebration. Every class performed a song, poem, skit or story related to African or African-American History. The highlight of the event was our students, teachers and staff modeling some of Africa’s coolest fashions!

March’s Family Science Night featured a presentation by Mad Science, which dazzled students from our youngest little siblings to our most sophisticated 5th graders!

Our sponsors truly made Family Reading, Math and Science Nights fantastic evenings. We couldn’t be more grateful to NAESP and MetLife for their generous “Sharing the Dream” grant!
